Random Links and Stuff
Stoker Award: Aegri Somnia has just been nominated for a Bram Stoker Award. What amazes me about this is that Jason didn't pick the stories. He picked the authors, and contracted to buy a story from each of us, sight unseen. Which was plobably a clever ploy on his part, actually. I know I stressed and sweated and agonized over my story much more than I would have for a traditional anthology submission.
For Parents and Teachers: At LTUE, Guest of Honor Stacy Whitman mentioned that many publishers are assembling Reluctant Reader packages: sample material and lesson plans designed to entice fledgeling readers to stretch their wings. For reference, here's the reluctant reader page from Mirrorstone.
Making Time to Write: A fabulous little essay by Julie Wright, who by the way is a fabulous person. You wouldn't guess from her happy, carefree glow that she's juggling so many obligations at home.
Writing Contest:The Magazine Baen's Universe and the National Space Society are jointly hosting the James Patrick Baen Memorial Writing Contest. The prize is publication at pro rates, plus perks. The focus of the contest is on near-future science fiction and realistic depictions of space travel. It's a fabulous way to honor Jim Baen, and ought to be a lot of fun, besides.
Where Can I submit stuff? Every single person reading my blog ought to know about ralan and duotrope, but I recently discovered that some of you aren't. For shame! (Not shame on you; shame on me. I've been lax in my duties.) Now you know.
