I download a lot of kindle samples, and most of them don't impress me enough to cinch a sale. But this one did. It also derailed several afternoons of scheduled writing time (Thanks a lot, Myke!) and rearranged some of my preconceptions about multi-book series and story structure.
A word of warning to sensitive readers: This book is military fantasy, and the characters talk like it. Strong, believable military language throughout, so if that sort of thing bothers you, wait for the movie. And rest assured, there will be one. Myke's action sequences are far too stunning and cinematically appealing for producers to hold off on his fiction for long. If you're waiting for the next big thing after X-Men, this is it.
